Sunny Sunday
9:15pm and it's still sunny out. Easy to forget how late it is this time of year.
Relaxing morning. H zoomed. The lads and I read our missals and prayed the rosary. Such a lovely day, we sat on the front porch. Heard a flock of ducks flying overhead. Sounds of spring.
Chill day. Puttered around the yard picking up sticks, raking, and checking plants for new growth.
He's really quite good with machines. He was chomping at the bit to get his permit, but, alas, the DMV closed because of The Virus. I took him for a test drive in our car (a stick shift) and he drove it like a dream. No stalling, nice and smooth.
Although the ground is still very squishy like a bog, the snow has melted back from the yard west of the house. When the older lads were small, this was the best yard: flat and grassy. H would set up a big canvas army tent and the kids would have a fort. Fun! When we started spending summers traveling, the "lawn" was neglected and the wild roses took over. All last summer I wanted to cut them back, but it was a huge tangled mess, and I never got to it. My bedroom window overlooks this area, and it would drive me crazy to see the yard unusable due to a thicket of thorn bushes. Well, I got out the loppers and cut back as much as I could. Maybe we'll be able to reclaim this bit of our yard from the suckers!
While he was getting dinner ready, O called asking for his help. He was on the phone with O for over an hour, trying to fix something with a pull-rope. So I stepped in and made some potato salad and chopping veg for the burgers. I just bought a bag of onions on Thursday and they're already punky, so I sauteed them along with garlic, peppers and mushrooms.

the flowerbed on the south side
In the fall I'd cleaned up the flowerbeds next to the house, so there wasn't much to rake up. Should probably dig up the bergenia and replant it. Soon.
the raised beds at the front of our yard
The first bed has rhubarb and the second chives. The third had native wildflowers. Plus lots of weeds and volunteers flowers. I made these raised bed boxes when I was pregnant with my first, 25 springs ago. The wood boxes have mostly rotted, so there's just mounds of dirt now. I raked them all today. Hope to catch the weeds before they overwhelm the "boxes."
This is what happens when you let a teenager loose with a chainsaw...
M was startled when I asked him to cut down a (very small!) dead spruce tree. He's used to being supervised or watching the older lads, but he's more than capable of operating machinery. Anything with a motor or an engine!

the view from my window now
I left some roses near the trees on the left.
While I was messing with the rose stalks (they aren't bushes at all!) T wandered by to see if I needed help. It was past 3pm! Time to halt and run to join the family zoom meeting! I was so hot that I sat out on the porch hoping to catch a breeze. I thought it was at least 50° but apparently the high was 45° today! Anyway, it was a pleasant visit. Only eldest sister didn't join us.
Day 29
I had a picture of me on the driveway when I was heading off for a walk, but I accidentally deleted it, so took this one on the front porch. Not very flattering!
H worked some more on the box room, putting nails in the drywall (apparently I only put two nails it when I put it up about 20 years ago), putting some putty on it, and sanding it. It'll be a while until he puts the bed in there and it's Virus ready. He's going to put up another piece of drywall, and the room will need to be painted.
No work on the jeep today. T's going to have a time of it getting through the frost heaves on his way to work tomorrow.
C and I went out for our usual walk in the late afternoon. It was so gorgeous out that we stood at the bottom of my driveway and chatted for another 20 minutes. Should've kept walking!
H made some buns and grilled hamburgers for dinner. Yum!

the perfect burger
10:35pm and it's just dusk. H and T are still working outside doing who knows what. T got an old snogo started and was ecstatic, even though the snow's almost gone and he won't be able to use it until next year!
