Fiddleheads

fiddleheads

I spent most of the day working outside. It's supposed to rain for the next 10 days, and there were several things I wanted to do in the yard before the growth explosion.

Planted the transplants from our neighbor. Put up a temporary fence to keep them protected. Right along the property line. H dug the holes and I plopped them in. Hopefully they'll grow into a hedge. Quickly. The house next door was empty for over a year. A family moved in about a month ago. Think they turned their garage into a steam.

Planted starts in pots. Probably too early, but I was in a gardening mood, and ya gotta strike while the iron is hot! Geranium and pansy in pots by the light pole. Planted nasturtium seeds in a pot there too. Pansies and calendula in a pot by the birch tree along the driveway. Daisies and calendula each have their own giant pots at the bottom on the front steps. Impatiens in the wooden pots. The remaining calendula, daisy, and pansy starts went in individual pots. They're all on the well; the dog knocks them off the stairs. Not sure where I'll eventually put them.

H planted a bunch of seeds. Late. Can't imagine they'll produce fruit, but will be very happy if they do. I planted 3 kale and 2 cabbage starts in pots behind the new rhubarb bed. Hopefully the slugs will stay off them!

Pulled everything but bricks and large empty pots out from under the front porch. Then raked. Lots of leaves blew under there in the fall.

Next thing I knew it was nearly 4pm. H and M went up to the lake, with M driving, much to his delight. I walked with C, and returned the neighbor's bucket.

Zoomed with my siblings. Everyone seemed in good form. Not much news, things continue to continue. Tomorrow the Mass governor will announce plans of opening things up. But mayors have control over their cities and towns.

Should've stayed in and put my feet up, but felt the daylight burning. Worked in the west yard. Cleared the rest of the wild roses (left a bunch near the spruce tree). Raked the flowerbed. Still lots of grassy area to rake, but not as pressing as clearing out the debris of leaves, sticks and twigs. Also picked some fiddlehead ferns for dinner. They're still tight, so perfect.

Raked along the fence in the back. I was planning to plant peas in pots along there. Instead, planted peas in pots, but left them on a huge stump up off the ground. Will move the pots once the peas sprout. Also raked the rhubarb.

H and M got home and I finished up outside. 7pm. Pulled leftovers from the fridge, steamed fiddleheads, fried eggs, and toasted English muffins. Dinner! Cleared out the fridge enough that I could fit in the fruit & veg languishing on the back porch. Voila!

Bone weary. H talked to O on the phone. It took effort to concentrate on their conversation. Another walk with C. Wine cooler. Comfy covers. More than ready for lova!
