Last Sunday in May
Woke to sunlight streaming through the cracks in the blinds. So bright that I thought I overslept. It was 8am.
I noticed the whirligigs on the shelf; I'd forgotten to put them out yesterday (it's Memorial Day weekend) so went to stick them in the pots at the front of the garden. Two swallows flew out of our light post! They've built a nest there. Yay!!!
Re-started the scarf I'm knitting. The blue and white yarns were different fluffiness so didn't match despite the same number of stitches. Not quite finished, I want it a little longer, then I have to figure out how to end it without having it unravel!
H zoomed. The lads and I read the missal and prayed the rosary. Neither wanted to do drive-by communion.
I raked in the yard for a while. Endless task! But it hasn't been done in several years, and I want to mow this summer. Hard to mow with twigs and branches embedded in the leaf litter. Will have to mow only a few times because we don't have a lawn as such, more like clumps of grass interspersed with bare ground. Mowing keeps down the insects. H doesn't like to mow because the grass provides cover... H noticed the rhubarb leaves are already being eaten by slugs. 😕
Walked with C about 3pm. Two separate groups of kids were driving by on 4-wheelers (good kids all). They weren't going fast, but it felt like we were on a racetrack! We noticed the first dandelions of the year!
4pm family zoom call. Youngest brother and two sisters. (Oldest called in briefly from a camp in NH.) Nice visit. Dynamics are very different amongst us youngers. The entire conversation and tone were more relaxed.
While I was on the call and making dinner (glowing mac & cheese), the lads worked at digging a pit. It looks like a grave! but is actually the base of a raised garden bed. One of H's designs. Quite a project!
Walked again in the evening with C. Still waffling on travel. Sibs said their states (MA, NY) are still sewed up tight due to The Virus. C and I walk and do word association conversation. Therapeutic!
My favorite pjs...
Gave up the ghost after 22 years.
