The Virus permeates our existence.

Up early and headed to work. Roused up a maintenance guy from the other building to find a extendable dust collector for the painter to use on the window wells which had about 3 inches of accumulated dust.

The cooks were making waffles to distribute to the kiddos and it smelled heavenly in the school.

I checked in the books L returned yesterday, and collected more books for her to read and comment on. Then I headed home. Altogether I was there for about an hour.

School with M. Just keep puttering on. With only three weeks left in May, he definitely won't be finished before June. I'm still torn about leaving. I am so ready for a break, but I'm not sure it's worth the hassle. And my life slips away...

My brother sent out an email about an EPA webinar on keeping schools clean. I forwarded to the principal and superintendent (the latter responded) and signed myself up. I couldn't access the online webinar part, but listened over the phone.

"Cleaning for Healthy Schools" lived up to its name. There were three speakers, and all were very informative. 2 hours. In depth. The main points I took from it:

  • importance of ventilation = open windows! leave fans on through several cycles after school to clear the air
  • reduce the number of high contact areas and clean them frequently (every other day minimum)
  • check cleanliness using ATP monitors
  • process of cleaning / smear vs. removal: use a clean wet cloth (soap & water) for each surface, wipe in one direction only!, wipe with pressure to remove
  • clean 1st then disinfect (wide variety of disinfectants will kill The Virus, but need direct contact; room temp is best; read label!; use gloves; 40 seconds contact
  • custodians need supplemental help from administrators and teachers; keep desks clear making things easier to clean
  • droplets can spread 4-5' and drop, while aerosols spread through the air up to 12' and can remain in the air for 4 hours and on surfaces for days
  • K-6 assigned seating = 20% chance of respiratory virus; M/HS not residential seating = community virus
  • floors: frequent resuspension of microbes; least porus material the better; vacuuming re-suspends particles
  • 1/2 cases got The Virus from fecal material
  • wash hands! correctly! The Virus can spread through 19 touches (wet gloves 10x more!)
  • avoid soft fabrics and chairs; they need wet systems to clean thoroughly
Lunch, then L came over, I gave her the bag of books and we walked. Pleasant visit. Lovely day: warm but really windy.

Remembered to pay bills. Tried to transfer $ from one bank to another, but $5k limit and I needed a special code. Grrr. Guess I'll mail a check. Before I spend my savings. Online shopping is way too easy. GAP, REI, Boden, GHill. $$$

Made dinner: pasta with chicken and veg. Edible. City council meeting tonight. Listened during dinner. Crazy restrictions. Police can pull cars over to check permits. Permits for boatyard. Testing required before entering the city. Face masks required. $1000 fines. Onerous.

Worked on putting books and supplies back on the shelves in the box room. Er, The Virus room. About 1/2 done. Needed a break. Loop walk with C. Sky clouded over, but no rain yet.
