Saturday, the Feast of St. Anthony of Padua

A gift from my Little Bear

I am so tired! I woke up far too early for a Saturday morning. Was it the light shining in through the cracks at the edges of the blinds? The dogs whining to go out? My inner alarm clock going off? Alas, I was up at 7:30.

Let the dogs out, made a cup of tea, and decided to clean out the fridge. Was it on my agenda? No. Did it need to be done? Yes. Did it need to be done at 7:30 on a Saturday morning? I don't know what got into me, but for the next two hours, I cleaned out the fridge.

The lads got up by 10:30. T was shocked that I hadn't made coffee! I'd actually sort of forgotten because I was busy. Luckily we had some cold brew in the fridge. Tasty! Then T lounged around, but M went out and loaded up the back of the jeep with cardboard. By 11:30 he was ready to head into town to drop the cardboard and stop by the boat harbor.

Late last night I got a facebook message telling me that I won a drawing at the No Pebble Mine booth. I got to choose a baseball cap or a beanie. I let M decide and take the prize (he opted for the beanie). Figures, I never win anything! Ever! I won a can of popcorn at O's preschool event. That's it! So, I was excited, but it was kind of a waste of a winning because it wasn't anything I wanted.

Anyway, we had to stop by the table at the boat harbor to pick up the hat. M was excited to drive, but the jeep's battery was dead, so we had to take the car. With a stick shift. Made it in to town before the post office closed at noon, picked up a package for T, then stopped at the boat harbor.

A new toque

Beautiful day! Four tenders were anchored out in the bay. Two fishing boats were moored at the docks, and we watched as another 32-footer was launched. The fishermen onboard were really excited about setting off, music blaring, dancing around and waving while the boat was being towed to the launch.

After our brief foray into town, I came home and cleaned out the freezer. I like to keep things in the same place so I can know what we have and where to look for things. For example, meat is kept in the basket at the bottom of the freezer, so I moved the cheese, veg, etc. to their shelves. Not everyone follows my system!

I had a pile of paperwork I was planning to sort through today, but instead I found myself cleaning up the back hall which had become a catch-all disaster area. Moved the dog food. Sorted through the gardening supplies. Moved everything off the bench and put them in their spots. Vacuumed and tidied the shoes.

While I was doing that, M had put the charger on the jeep's battery and got it going. Then the lads went off on an errand to drop the cardboard off in Neqleq. They came home and hung out for a while, waiting for O to call them for a chat.

C called to go for a walk, so off we went with the dogs. Both dogs are still hesitant to walk past the husky's house, even though it's been two weeks since the attack. I keep Lad on a leash and carry a sturdy cane (which is too short for me to use as a cane but makes a great cudgel). C and I marched on by and the dogs reluctantly went with us.

Then I cleaned out my coat closet. I decided to move the shoe rack in the laundry area as it's been a dumping place for M's paraphernalia: jackets, hats, gloves, tape, sunglasses, candy wrappers. He has a spot to hang his coats, so it's annoying to constantly have to shift his stuff. So, I removed the rack and put it in my closet, making room for the vacuum cleaner in there, too.

A work in progress

Voila!

new green mat

The lads filled up the jeep with our trash and headed out to the dump. And I, after seeing mud splattered all over my rubber boots, painted them with pink dots in the hopes that they aren't worn again by the other person in the house that wears the same size shoe.*

It's been warm and sunny for the past few days. Our house is in the trees, so it's quite shady and usually a bit cooler, but with all the vegetation it's a very buggy spot. I worked outside for as long as I could take it! Watered plants with a watering can (waiting for the spray nozzle from Target so I can use the hose and really saturate them). Tied up the delphiniums in the west flowerbed. Puttered around, checking on things. The little starts we planted for the hedge look really good; only two or three have died, the rest are green and healthy. The transplanted delphiniums are thriving too.
My geranium is blooming!

One of the books I had on hold with Libby (the online library) came available, but alas, the internet is too slow to download it onto the ipad. With all the extra devices using the internet this time of year, capacity is overloaded and the internet slows way down. Frustrating! Guess I should pick up a real book and read it!

* It didn't work.  I just happened to look out the window and saw him climbing on the dirtbike...wearing my boots! With pink dots!
