Sunday within the Octave of Corpus Christi

Dearly beloved: Wonder not if the world hate you. We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who loves not abides in death. Every one who hates his brother is a murderer. And ye know that no murderer has life everlasting abiding in himself. In this we know the love of God, that He laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. He who has the substance of this world and sees his brother in need and shuts up his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us love, not in word, nor tongue,  but in deed and truth.
- 1 St. John 3:13-18

Quiet, peaceful day. I forced myself not to do much but appreciate the beautiful day. I looked over my planner and read the hopeful New Year's resolutions. Thought about life, expectations, plans, etc.

Prayers with the lads seemed especially poignant.  The Epistle is timely: kindness to all.

Today's gospel, St. Luke 14:16-24, hit me hard after my reflections earlier in the day. He invited them to a supper and they all began to make excuses. Why would they prefer not to celebrate with him? Why did they let ordinary things get in the way?

The lads were busy removing dead branches or "widow-makers" from the trees around the yard. M had mowed quite a bit yesterday and the yard looks open and appealing.  I had to restrain myself from raking. 😁

Lads at work.

After they finished with that self-assigned chore, they went off on the dirt bike and three-wheeler.

I zoomed with my siblings.  DC bro was at the cottage and signed in 45 minutes late, just as we were wrapping things up. I have been trying to compartmentalize things. Such as: Summers at PI were in the past and have no place my future. All's well, but that's not a part of my life anymore.

Reading a Robert Ludlum book, The Bourne Identity.  It wouldn't download on the iPad so I'm reading it on my phone. Loving Libby, the online library app.

Walked twice with C. In the afternoon the dogs accompanied us, but in the evening they stayed with T, who sat on the porch smoking a cigar. Ran into a neighbor who just got back from Anchorage and is in quarantine. She came over to me and swiped my hand and shirt sleeve to swat mosquitoes away. Um. Okay.

Texted with O and talked to H via cellphone. Pleasant, peaceful day.
